old, abandoned barns
have old, forgotten secrets–
within and without
we may never know all that’s
buried behind the ol’ barn

we may never know all that’s

when i’m following
a set of tracks in the woods
i’m prepared to shoot
for the photos that i’ve missed
were definitely my best

i only knew of
warm days by the cool waters–
and then winter came
yet winter soon taught me that
happiness comes from within

strangely colored mists roll in–
the great wizard nears!
witches know that spells do work,
but the great wizard knows why

My final sunset
Will also be somebody’s
Very first sunrise
I look at my granddaughters
And accept the greater scheme

When my mind’s a mess
I go see my therapist–
Ol’ Mother Nature!
I walk into the woods to
Find my way out of the woods

we walk down life’s path
hoping to find happiness–
but it’s not out there
it will never come to us
it can only come from us

and the spiritual plane
are one and the same
when we try to divide them
we end up with two half-truths

children tell tall tales
to naive younger children–
and believe them too
the greatest storytellers
never lose that innocence

my lost inner child
hangs out on a hill among
a few wildflowers
we run into each other
more and more as i grow old
