Roddenberry Quote

I can’t think of a better time for a Roddenberry quote. As the genius behind Star Trek, he always had a positive spin on mankind’s future, something we could use right now.

It would have been his birthday today. I’m almost glad he’s not here to see how far we’ve strayed from his vision:

“If we cannot learn to actually enjoy our differences on this planet, then we do not deserve to go into space and meet the diversity that is almost certain out there.”

He believed we would.

Oscar Wilde Quote

My father was never an avid fisherman, and neither am I. Or should I say, SO neither am I? It seems like most of my friends that are really into it, had fathers that were, too. It makes me wonder if they really find fishing so alluring, or is it about fond memories of quality time with their fathers alone in a boat together?

When you realize that many of your likes and dislikes were actually chosen for you by someone else, you may feel at a loss at just who you are. Am I my father? My Mother? Who am I?

And that’s where the quote by Oscar Wilde comes in, about who to be. It’s one of my favorites; it hits me like a zen koan:

“Be yourself.

Everyone else is

Already taken.”

Chuang Tzu Quote

This is my attempt to make a little model of a birch bark canoe. Try as I might, I just couldn’t get it right, so I decided to go with the flow and started gluing pieces together without any plan. Maybe it’s because I drove truck for twenty years, I don’t know, but this is what came out of it.

Sometimes writing poetry is like that too; you have an idea, but if it morphs into something else, go with it. It reminds me of this Chuang Tzu quote:

Flow with whatever is happening.

Let your mind be free.

Stay centered by accepting

Whatever you are doing.

John Lennon Quote

I often think of this quote By John Lennon, and with the spreading pandemic, it’s more fitting than ever:  “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”

Recently, I heard Rick, from Rick and Morty, use it in their delightfully twisted cartoon show. Needless to say, I’m both a John Lennon and Rick and Morty fan.
