from here,
the tall clover
appears
to stand over
the little
white house
like some great
purple trees;
from here,
it’s amazing
when deer
come a-grazing–
the little
white house
doesn’t reach
to their knees

“Mama, if the eagle comes for us, will the turtle over there help us? He’s got a big hard shell–maybe we could hide under it.”
“No, I’m sorry my little ones; the turtle has his log, and that’s all he cares about.”

in the arrogance
of our youth
we created god
in our own image
and consequently
kicked ourselves
out of the garden.
we were no longer
part of nature.
but i tell you
the truth about
us is marvelous:
we are nature
and what’s more–
we are
cutting edge
nature.

truth be told–
sometimes our problems
really do
go away
if we just have the patience
to wait long enough

winter came back
for a visit this morning–
she pulled a white sheet
o’er my freshly mown lawn,
and now i’m afraid to start
planting my garden
until i’m convinced
that nurse ratched is gone

I’m always chasing down some kind of wildlife for a picture, but I have to admit, I have far more shots of their backsides as they run away than anything else. It makes me wonder why every animal I encounter, great or small, is utterly terrified of me. Anyway, it’s not always a bad thing that I can’t catch them, which brings me to the Dalai Lama quote:
“Remember that sometimes
not getting what you want
is a wonderful stroke of luck.”
